What are they? Young Apprenticeships (YAs) are a new way for pupils to learn about jobs they are interested in, gain work experience and develop practical skills without giving up your academic qualifications. How they workYou will continue to learn English, Maths, Science and ICT possibly with other GCSE’s for three days a week. You will spend two days a week on the YA programme studying for a level 2 qualification with I-SA Training. Why Hairdressing? British hairdressing is regarded as the most professional and most creative in the world. It has some of the highest standards and a training and education system that is copied throughout the world. It requires hard work and dedication and is a professional career with a clear progression route from salon junior to salon owner or manager. The programme is a highly practical one that will challenge your ability to work as part of a team in a very different environment. You will need to complete a portfolio to show your capability, skills and knowledge. How will I learn? You will start the programme at the school and once sufficient knowledge and skills have been learned you will be placed in a local salon at least one day a week. How will I be assessed? You will be assessed throughout the programme through practical observations, answers to written questions and through set assignments. Each unit has research activities and assignments to complete. There is one online test taken towards the end of the course. What will I get at the end of the programme? You will gain a Level 2 Diploma in Ladies Hairdressing and also a certificate from HABIA, awarding you with the Young Apprenticeship. This is equivalent to 5 GCSE’s A* to C. What can I do once I have completed this programme? This is a nationally recognised qualification that is understood by employers and colleges. Apart from the experience and a hairdressing qualification, you will be in a much better position to make an informed choice on what to do at 16. Entrance requirements You will have to complete an application form, take an aptitude test, complete an assignment and there will be a selection procedure including an interview with the school and I-SA training, who are industry specialists.
