South Cotswold Partnership Conference Success - Thursday 9 July
Thursday 9 July saw the SCP hold its first conference, where staff involved in the all aspects of the partnership were invited. Delegates heard of the tremendous growth the partnership had seen since its conception in 2004. Some 150 pupils from six partner institutions are involved in collative courses at either level 1 or level 2, ranging from NVQ I in Beauty Therapy to BTEC First Diploma in Construction & the Built Environment.
Conference heard about the challenges and opportunities the partnership faces due to curriculum change and including the introduction of Diplomas and the Foundation Learning Tier. With the introduction of the Creative & Media diploma in September 2009 to a post 16 cohort, the partnership is taking it first steps in delivering this new qualification. Conference heard the plan was to introduce this to pre 16 learners in 2009, with the Construction & Built Environment diploma being introduced in 2011.
The partnership is busy making preparations to submit a further 3 Gateway bids in 2009 in Society, Health & Development, Sport and Active Leisure and Environmental and Land Based. Work groups are working tirelessly to engage employers to help deliver the diplomas.
Over the past few months we have been reviewing the operational procedures including Assessment & Reporting and Rewards. It was reported that as well as major changes to the fore mentioned, a working group to look at discipline will also be established to review current practice.
Quality assurance and self assessment are critical in order improve our provision. The partnership has undertaken a self review and the initial results of this were fed back to delegates. It was pleasing to hear that on whole the partnership has come out as being ‘Good’ overall.
Delegates were asked to identify their priorities for the next 12 months and what the partnership could do to support the delivery of courses to ensure success. These will be posted on the web site at a later date.
Next years conference will be held on Tuesday 22 June 2010. Further details will be sent out after Easter.
